During the process of die casting, various problems will inevitably occur. We need to find the problems and solve them even if they occur. Some of the common problems are pouring overflow, mold requirements, internal gate, and overflow tank.

Here is the content:

  • Mold requirements

  • Inner sprue

  • Overflow grooves

Mold requirements

The entrance of the cross sprue of the cold horizontal mold should be located above 2/3 of the inner diameter of the upper part of the pressure chamber so that the metal liquid in the pressure die casting chamber will not enter the cross sprue prematurely under the action of gravity and start to solidify in advance. Generally, the cross-section at the outlet is 10-30% smaller than that at the import. The cross sprue should have a certain length and depth. The purpose of maintaining a certain length is to play the role of steady flow and guidance. If the depth is not enough, the metal liquid will be cooled down quickly; if the depth is too deep, the condensation will be too slow, which will not only affect the productivity but also increase the amount of furnace material. The cross-sectional area of the cross sprue should be larger than the cross-sectional area of the inner gate to ensure the speed of the metal liquid into the die casting mold. The bottom two sides of the cross sprue should be made rounded to avoid early cracking, and the second side can make a slope of about 5°. The surface roughness of the cross sprue should be ≤ Ra0.4μm.

Inner sprue

The metal liquid should not close the parting surface immediately after entering the die casting mold, and the overflow groove and exhaust groove should not impact the core positively. The flow direction of the metal liquid into the mold as far as possible along with the cast into the rib and heat sink, from the thick wall to the thin wall-filling, etc. When choosing the location of the internal gate, make the liquid metal flow as short as possible. When using multiple internal gates, to prevent the convergence of several strands of metal liquid after entering the shape, mutual impact, thus producing vortex package gas and oxidation inclusions and other defects.

Overflow grooves

The overflow tank should be easy to remove from the die casting and try not to damage the body of the casting. When opening the exhaust slot on the overflow tank, attention should be paid to the location of the overflow port to avoid prematurely blocking the exhaust slot and making the exhaust slot ineffective. And to avoid the cold liquid in the metal, slag, gas, and paint, it should not be in the same overflow tank to open several overflows or open a very wide and thick overflow.

Only professionally trained die casting casters can provide satisfactory service to customers. And in this regard TEAM MFG has done a lot of training and research.
